"Two preventions and one promotion"project of the WRSF launched in Chicheng

Cervical cancer and breast cancer are two of the most prevalent malignancies that endanger women's health, and early screening, diagnosis and treatment are globally recognised as effective means of cancer prevention and control. Healthy China Action (2019-2030) states that the coverage of screening programmes for rural women for the cervical cancer and breast cancershould be gradually expanded, with the coverage rates for rural women reaching over 80% and 90% by 2022 and 2030 respectively.

In order to help achieve the goal of Healthy China Action (2019-2030) , on July 26, the "Two preventions and one promotion" public welfare screening project for women to preventin Chicheng County was officially launched, which was co-sponsored by Western Returned Scholars Foundation (WRSF) and the county government of Chicheng County, Hebei Province. Supported by BGI Genomics and the Beijing Chicheng Chamber of Commerce, etc. Through the screening, the early diagnosis and treatment rate of women's cervical cancer and breast cancer will be increased, preventing diseases and poverty, and promoting rural revitalization.

Mo Wenxiu, chairof the board of the WRSF, said that the "two preventions and one promotion" public welfare screening program for women to prevent cervical cancer and breast cancer, jointly carried out by the WRSF and the county government of Chicheng County, aims to serve the people, spread health knowledge and promote health awareness by practically caring for women's health at the localand sending cutting-edge high-tech disease prevention technologies to the rural areas.

Mo Wenxiu pointed out that the "Two preventions and one promotion" project in Chicheng County, as a pilot project, is the first step in the implementation of the "Healthy China" public welfare project by the WRSF, and is tasked with exploring methods, gaining experience, perfecting ideas and establishing mechanisms. We hope that the implementation team, under the leadership of the local party committee and government, will work together with medical workers to deliver cutting-edge high-tech disease prevention and screening technology to the localand to women, so that they can be tested as much as possible. Through the implementation of the project, we will spread the knowledge of prevention, promote the change of the concept from treatment-centred to prevention-centred, promote the creation of a project implementation mechanism, promote the creation of a follow-up service mechanism, promote the creation of a digital health service platform, and strive to improve the capacity and level of service for the people.

Supporting our hometown to carry out this work is our gratitude to our hometown in return. As people from Chicheng who have been working outside for many years, we are honoured to be able to share the worries of our hometown government and make a small contribution to the healthcare of our folks back home.

Dr. Yin Ye, CEO of BGI Group, gives a keynote speech titled "Prevention is better than treatment - cancer will no longer be the king of all diseases".

Yin Ye, a life science educator and CEO of BGI Group, gave a lecture on the science of tumour prevention and control, "Prevention is better than treatment - cancer will no longer be the king of all diseases". In the lecture, he presented several refreshing perspectives on the causes of the high rate of cancer in China, the journey of human beings in fighting cancer, and how to raise awareness of cancer prevention. Longer life expectancy is one of the reasons for the high incidence of cancer, but the so-called "longer life expectancy" only applies to a certain area. The origin of cancer is genetic "selfishness", where species choose to perpetuate their genes, including asexual reproduction, in the event of a bad environment.

There is no such thing as a suddenly occurred cancer, only a suddenly discovered cancer. In this regard, Yin emphasized that raising awareness of cancer prevention is more important than promoting accurate treatment. A person has a 1 in 4 chance of developing cancer in their lifetime (at 80 years old), so early screening can save a life and even a family. Among them, cervical cancer, breast cancer, colorectal cancer and lung cancer are the most common cancers that are worthy of early screening. In conclusion, Yin Ye expressed his sincere hope that the project in Chicheng County would go smoothly and that Chicheng County would become a pioneer county in early cancer prevention and control for the "Healthy China" initiative. From "no one left behind" to "no one at risk" (advanced malignant tumours), the future is promising.

The "Two preventions and one promotion"public welfare screening in Chicheng will last for one month, with four stationary screening sites and two mobile intelligentcervical cancer and breast cancerscreening vans. For villages where medical resources are unevenly distributed and transportation is difficult,the cervical cancer and breast cancerscreening vans have opened up the "last mile" of the cervical cancer and breast cancerscreening, and the patients can complete HPV self-sampling test and breast ultrasound examination in one stop.

Next to the cervical cancer and breast cancer screening vehicle at the launch ceremony, local women in Chicheng enthusiastically inquired about the registration and screening of cervical cancer and breast cancer for public welfare, and the relevant staff answered their questions. Many women said that they had learned a lot about tumour prevention and the importance and necessity of screening for their own health through the popular lectures, and that they would tell their friends around them so that more women could participate in this public welfare programme. A woman shared that screening for cervical cancer and breast cancer was particularly important and she was one of the beneficiaries, having been tested positive five years ago and had surgery, and is now following up on her health checks every year.

The launching ceremony was hosted by Yuan Yun, a member of the Party Group of the People's Government of Chicheng County. The WRSF issued Certificates of Special Support Organizations to caring organizations such as BGI and the Beijing Chicheng Chamber of Commerce.
